Mechanical and Electropolishing Technician

Position Summary

This full-time technician is responsible for performing precision surface finishing on stainless steel and other metal components, utilizing both mechanical and electrochemical polishing techniques. This role ensures all finished parts meet company and customer standards for finish quality, cleanliness, and dimensional accuracy. This position requires strict adherence to local, state, and federal environmental and safety regulations, as well as compliance with industry standards such as ASTM, ISO, and OSHA. The technician is also responsible for maintaining accurate documentation of process parameters, inspections, and quality records to support internal audits and external regulatory, safety, and quality requirements while contributing to a safe and efficient production environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare metal components for polishing by cleaning, masking, and inspecting surfaces.
  • Operate and maintain electropolishing equipment, including power supplies, tanks, and fixtures.
  • Perform mechanical polishing, buffing, and surface preparation using grinders, sanders, and polishing wheels.
  • Mix and handle chemical solutions safely according to established procedures.
  • Inspect finished parts for surface quality, appearance, and compliance with specifications using microscopes, gauges, and surface finish measuring tools.
  • Maintain accurate records of process parameters, inspection results, and production data.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including PPE usage and chemical handling protocols.
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of polishing equipment.
  • Collaborate with quality and engineering teams to identify and resolve process or finish issues.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to safety, efficiency, and product quality.

Required Responsibilities

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Five+ years of experience in in mechanical polishing, metal finishing, or related manufacturing role.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain consistent surface finishes.
  • Basic understanding of chemical safety and handling procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work instructions.
  • Manual dexterity and ability to handle small precision parts.
  • Ability to participate in Confined Space Entry.
  • Experience in stainless steel electropolishing or passivation.
  • Familiarity with surface finish measurement tools (RA gauges, profilometers, microscopes).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of cleanroom or high-purity manufacturing environments (pharmaceutical, semiconductor, or medical device).
  • Understanding of ISO 9001 or similar quality management systems.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Comfortable working in a chemical processing environment with PPE.
  • Ability to perform repetitive manual operations with precision.
  • Ability to conduct confined space entry.

Work Environment

  • Industrial/manufacturing setting with exposure to chemicals, noise, and metal dust.
  • PPE required: gloves, goggles, aprons, respirators, as necessary.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Hourly position $40-60 per hour.
